Both methods are discussed below. However, before that, you need to prepare Exchange for uninstall. For this, use the following commands,. Now that the server is prepared, you can follow the given methods to remove and decommission Exchange Server Step 1. Log on to the Server from which the Exchange needs to be removed. Step 2.
Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. On the Server Role Selection page, clear the Management Tools checkbox and all the checkboxes associated with server roles and click on Next. Note: All the server roles are selected by default, therefore, it is important to specify the roles that need to be removed by clearing uncheck the associated checkboxes.
Step 6. On Readiness Checks page, click on Uninstall after the check is completed. Step 7. On the Completion page that appears, click on Finish.
Step 8. Next, there are some optional steps that you can either execute or skip to proceed further. Backup uses legacy streaming APIs to perform mailbox and public folder database backup and restore. Although Backup is versatile, its features are limited. Many third-party backup tools have a much more robust feature set.
Are you running the backup local to the Exchange server or across the network? No errors in the logs at all. Backup all nice and complete and ESE logged events report all backed up ok etc.
You should see a event log following the full or inc backup of the replica telling you that it won't immediatly delete logs for source and copy storage groups. Event Type: Information. Event ID: The Microsoft Exchange Replication Service VSS writer instance cbe-1afb46e-2c88e has successfully completed the backup of storage group 'sg03'.
Database log truncation has been requested for this storage group. Log truncation will occur on the active copy after the next log generation is created. Log truncation will occur automatically on the passive copy after that log file is copied. If you are still experiencing problems please give us an exact description of what you are doing and we'll try for a repro.
Backup can take VSS shadow copies of the Exchange database and log files, but this is done at the file level. These copies are not Exchange-aware backups. Third-party backup software is required to back up the Exchange database with VSS. You must buy an Exchange-aware backup solution to take advantage of VSS functionality. Ok found the backup, you can see it here. BTW at the time there were zero errors only nice white info events.
I remember seeing it saying it was backing up and had finished. Go to solution. Ok Just had our Exchange server stop receiving external emails. We are not using an Exchange agent just the normal windows agent. Any help would be appreciated. All forum topics Previous Topic Next Topic. Accepted Solutions. CraigV Level 6.

That is correct, but if the EX server has an issue on a Thursday I don't want to have to do 4 or 5 restores. Also, that just masks the problem. Unless you switch to either a full or incremental backup, you'll continue to have log files build up. I have several divisions with EX environments around 1 TB and 50 gb of logs in one week is not anywhere near normal.
Differential backups will not delete logs after they are backed up. That is ignorant of what a differential backup is. And I know that they do not clear the logs which is exactly why I pick differential instead of incremental.
If the edb crashes on a Friday morning I have the option of restoring the weekend and running the logs for rapid recover.
To get back onto the issue, there is really no way a total of 2 TB in data stores that have about MB of email activity in a week should generate 90 GB of logs in a week. This is not a server that accumulated 2 TB in a year. This is a server with mail dating back 10 years.
I definitely agree with you about the logs; that is crazy. However; why are you doing differentials if you are currently having this issue? Wouldn't an differential mid week and incremental the rest of the daily's be a better idea?
I know it's more annoying for recovery to do it that way, but in the mean time with this log issue, why not have the ability to clear the logs more often?
