Some text editors may add extraneous non-printable characters to the XML configuration file. When you try to import the XML configuration, these extraneous characters will not be accepted by the gateway. The gateway provides an Extensible Markup Language XML interface that you can use to configure gateway's embedded device servers. An XCR can contain many configuration settings or just a few. For example, it might change all of the configurable parameters for a gateway, or it may only change the baud rate for a single serial line.

Using XCRs is a straightforward and flexible way to manage the configuration of multiple gateways. An element consists of a start tag and an end tag that surrounds text and other elements. The start and end tags consist of a name surrounded by angle brackets, with a forward slash also preceding the name in the end tag.

The element can also contain other "child" elements. The XML element attributes are name-value pairs included in the start tag after the element name. The values must be quoted, using single or double quotes. Each attribute name should appear only once in an element. The gateway uses the attributes in the following section to label the group configuration settings.

A configgroup is a logical grouping of configuration parameters and must contain one or more configitem elements. It must have a name attribute and may have an instance attribute. A configitem is a specific grouping of configuration parameters relevant to its parent group.

An item takes the name attribute and must contain one or more value elements. A value may specify the value of a configuration parameter. It may contain the name attribute. A name attribute identifies the group, item, or value. It is always quoted as are all XML attributes. An instance attribute identifies which of several instances is being addressed.

It is always quoted. The following examples demonstrate the use of the record, group, item, and value XML elements in an XML configuration record. The Web API methods provide the following capabilities:. You can use a client such as cURL to make requests from the command line or as part of a scriptable procedure. Docs » Configuration and Setup. Important Always review configuration changes. Important Please change the default administrator password to keep your device secure.

Note All changes that you make through the Web Manager take effect immediately unless otherwise noted. Note The result message describes the configuration change and a WARNING message that you must "write" in order to save the configuration change to flash.

Exit and return to one level higher. At the root level, this command stops the command line. Press any key to start the command line again. Type the first few letters of the command and press Enter. For example, enter co for config. Type the first few letters of a command and then press the Tab key to run through the possible commands.

For the sake of expediency they are summarized here. The device is Hayes modem compatible and accepts AT commands. You may issue AT commands to configure the modem using a terminal application such as Hyperterm Windows or cu Linux.

There is no special setup required. The script called ravencfg will automatically configure the modem. Before running the script make sure that the communications parameters match the requirements stated above. The script will take a few short moments to run. Afterwards the modem will be ready to go. This is the fastest way to configure the modem.

The appropriate settings to use can be found within the ravencfg script itself. At the time of this writing there were no software port redirection solutions available for linux. The MSS provides a hardware solution that has been sucessfully tested using lapdogs rtilities and a Trimble ssi gps receiver in combination with the Raven II modem.

Several scripts were written to automate the configuration process of the MSS You may find a listing of all available scripts including one for the Raven at:.

Since the MSS requires network access you will need to provide the IP, gateway, and subnet mask adresses. The configuration of the MSS is a two-stage process. The initial step sets up the serial port communications and ethernet network parameters. This is done via the serial port itself using the factory default settings. The script localcfg will do the initial configuration. If you find that you are not able to communicate with the device using factory settings try resetting the unit. You will find the reset button between the power input and the RJ port.

Press and hold the button with a pointed object for about ten seconds with the power on. It may take up to 45 seconds to reboot. The second step involves communicating with the MSS via the ethernet.

The script remotescg will do the secondary configuration. You will be prompted for the com port, baud rate, IP, gateway, and subnet mask. The baud rate is the new setting that will be used for the MSS. The baud rate should be set to Note that this script sets the baud rate to One additional script, called makesite , creates custom configuration scripts which are based upon remotecfg.

This is for the purpose of maintaining automated downloading using lapdogs and cron if there is more than one site to contact. An example of a cron looks like:. Toggle navigation. Knowledge Base. Digi EtherLite 1. Lantronix 5. Quatech 3. Short-haul Modems 3. Wireless 6. Equipment Enclosures 9.
