Game of Thrones has always been great at giving us backstabbing moments that actually make sense and don't feel forced, and I feel like this was a perfect example of an episode that focused on it. Plus, this episode definitely felt like the first step into the absolute chaotic second half of the season.
We began in Braavos where Arya continued her training into becoming no one. Even though Arya has probably had the least amount of screen-time out of the main cast members this year, her scenes at the House of Black and White have felt tedious. With that being said, the dungeon of heads or whatever was pretty cool. And I was glad to see that it seems as though her training is picking up a bit.
Speaking of the Starks, Sansa had a big night, but not necessarily a good one. Anytime the show has a wedding, I get nervous for the characters. I half expected to Brienne to break up the party, or maybe even Theon. But what I was really hoping for was Theon killing Ramsay while he raped Sansa.
It was heartbreaking watching Sansa go through something like that after all she has been through, and Theon's face seemed to signal him helping her. But she did have a great scene with Myranda in which she completely out smarted her and I'm sure eventually will prove that she will not be one of those 'dumb girls'. Baelish arrived at Kings Landing to set another one of his schemes in motion. When he revealed to Cersei that Sansa was still alive, I thought for a second that he had bad intentions but in typical Baelish form, he had more up his sleeve.
This time he wants to be named Warden of the North. That's something I would be okay with, as long as the Bolton's get what they deserve. Meanwhile, Cersei once again plotted against Margaery. It's been fun all season watching the two go at matching blows week to week. Putting her on trial with her brother for having homosexual experiences is pretty brutal.
And it shows us again just how little power Tommen actually has. Onto our favorite road trip duos, Tyrion and Jorah bonded over their father issues, that is until they were captured by slavers. I feel like the whole being 'captured on a road trip' thing is getting a bit annoying but at least the slavers are headed towards Meereen. If anything else, tonight was a great episode for these two and their scenes erase the brutal final scene.
Over the centuries, they have fought border wars beyond count, and raided back and forth across mountains and marches even when at peace. The enmity between the two houses waned a bit after Dorne became part of the Seven Kingdoms, but the maiming of Willas Tyrell by the Dornish prince Oberyn Martell in a joust fanned the animosity between the families, though Willas himself does not hold any grudge against Oberyn, as both men knew what happened was simply an unfortunate accident.
In the second novel, Varys reports Tyrion that Prince Doran Martell has called his banners, and there are rumors that he intends to join Renly Renly tells Catelyn the same thing. Despite Cersei's protests, Tyrion sends Myrcella to Dorne as a token of good faith. The Martells stay neutral throughout the war, although it is unclear whether the reason is Tyrion's offer, or the Martells bide their time.
Tywin, too, understands it is necessary to appease the Martells, lest they form an alliance with Stannis. He is partly correct: as revealed in the fourth and fifth novels, Doran Martell intends to support enemies of House Lannister; the enemies in question, however, are the Targaryens, not the Baratheons.
Cersei deeply hates the Dornish in general and the Martells in particular, thinking that all Dornishmen are snakes, and the Martells are the worst of them. This is perhaps the reason for her unsuccessful scheme to assassinate Trystane.
Quentyn meets Daenarys in the following novel, but she rejects his offer, because she has already promised to wed Hizdahr zo Loraq. Some time later, after Daenerys departs from Meereen, Quentyn attempts to steal her dragons, but is killed. His family has not been informed yet of his death. Connington believes it is essential to obtain the support of the Martells, because only they have enough power to to defy House Lannister and its allies.
For that purpose, he sends Doran a letter, informing him that his nephew is alive, and offering an alliance. Doran, cautious as ever, regards the contents of the letter dubiously; since he prefers not to act till he knows for a certainty what is happening, he sends his daughter Arianne to find out whether Aegon and Connington are really the people whom they claim to be.
While the Martells intend to ally with House Targaryen in general, it has yet to be seen which of the individual Targaryen contenders they will support - Daenerys or Aegon. George R. Martin has said that the production team isn't certain how many members of House Martell they can fit into the TV series. Doran has three children, while Oberyn and Ellaria have eight daughters. Even for House Tyrell, which has four children in the current generation, two have apparently been cut from the TV series Loras and Margaery's older brothers from the books.
Conversely, in Season 2 the production team thought they might have to cut Stannis Baratheon 's only child, Shireen , but subsequently was able to introduce her in Season 3. While Oberyn and Ellaria do appear in Season 4, it remains to be seen how many other Martells can be introduced into the TV continuity in later seasons.

It is the forty-sixth episode of the series overall. It premiered on May 17, It was written by Bryan Cogman and directed by Jeremy Podeswa. Arya trains. Jorah and Tyrion run into slavers. Trystane and Myrcella make plans. Jaime and Bronn reach their destination. The Sand Snakes attack. Arya continues her training with the Faceless Men. She cleans a corpse methodically, which is then taken away by two men.
Arya is obviously curious about what is on the other side of the door through which the corpse was taken. Arya is about to walk through the door when the Waif obstructs her path and latches the door.
Arya wants to know what happens to the bodies she scrubs clean, but the Waif tells her that she will know when the time is right. Frustrated at the lack of answers, Arya demands to play the game of faces.
The Waif tells her that Arya has already tried playing the game but failed. She again asks Arya who she is, to which Arya replies that she is no one. The Waif simply tells Arya to get back to work and is about to walk away when Arya asks her who she is.
The Waif tells Arya a story about how she was the only daughter of a widowed Lord, who remarried, producing another daughter. The Waif found out about this and sought out the help of the Faceless Men to exact her revenge. The Waif then asks Arya whether she believed the story, surprising Arya. Later, when Arya is asleep, Jaqen H'ghar comes to test Arya again. This time, when he asks Arya who she is, Arya tells him how she came to join the Faceless Men, trying to slip in a few lies into the story.
However, Jaqen is able to tell when Arya is lying and hits her with a switch whenever she does. He strikes her repeatedly when she insists she hated the Hound. Before he leaves, he tells her that she is lying not only to him, but to herself as well. Arya in the Hall of Faces. A grieving father brings his sickly daughter, Ghita , to the House of Black and White. He explains to Arya that he has been to every healer in Braavos and spent every penny he had.
He tells her that his daughter is suffering and needs to find peace. Arya sits besides the girl and tells her a short false story, about how she was sick too, but her father brought her here and when she drank from the temple's well, she was healed.
This persuades the sickly girl to drink the poisoned water from the well. The water gives the peace of death to the sickly girl, and Arya, having successfully proven that she can lie, is brought to the Hall of Faces with Jaqen H'ghar, a great underground chamber that houses thousands of faces.
All the faces had been taken from the corpses that the acolytes wash in the temple. The Faceless Man then asks Arya if she is ready to give up who she is to become "no one". After a moment of silence, he then states that she is not ready to become "no one" she is too attached to her past as a Stark , but that she is ready to become "someone else".
On the western side of Slaver's Bay , Tyrion Lannister and Jorah Mormont are still making their way to Meereen on the far opposite eastern side of the region on foot, after losing their boat passing through the Smoking Sea and the ruins of Old Valyria. Tyrion is annoyed that they didn't find any villages to steal a boat or supplies from as Jorah had hoped, so they're slowly walking and only have berries and roots to eat.
The topic of just why Tyrion was even in Volantis comes up, and Tyrion is surprised that Jorah did not ask earlier: he explains that he actually fled from Westeros because he killed his own father Tywin. He says he did it because his father tried to have him executed for a crime he didn't commit , and then he found his father screwing the woman he loved - Jorah nods, as this seems as likely a motivation for Kinslaying as any. Tyrion then says that despite how miserable Jorah is now, at least he can say that he had a good father.
Jorah asks how he could have known his father Jeor Mormont , but Tyrion explains he visited the Wall once and met him: he was a great leader who seemed to genuinely care about all of his men, a rare thing in the world, but now as the eulogy for Night's Watch members goes, "the world will not see his like again. Tyrion becomes apologetic and says he thought that Jorah knew already. Jorah asks how he died: Tyrion says he only knows the report he heard, which said that his father led an expedition beyond the Wall , but there was a mutiny , and Jeor was murdered by his own men.
Jorah processes this in silent grief, then changes the subject by saying that they have to keep moving. As they walk, Tyrion asks why Jorah would support Daenerys Targaryen and how she would be better than any other rulers , or why Westeros would even support her, given that her father was the Mad King.
Jorah explains that he never used to believe in things like destiny and was very cynical, but after seeing Daenerys emerge from the flames unharmed with baby dragons, he believes in her now, and the Iron Throne is hers by right. Tyrion remains skeptical that this doesn't automatically mean she will be a good queen, given that the Targaryens were famous for going insane , just like Daenerys's own father. Spotting a slaver ship in the distance, Jorah pulls Tyrion to the ground.
However, the pair has already been spotted before they start hiding, and the slavers emerge from the trees behind them and take them captive. The lead slaver, Malko , intends to return them back to their destination in Volantis. Tyrion, however, manages to successfully persuade him that Jorah is one of the most skilled knights in Westeros, and would fetch a better price being sold to the fighting pits in Meereen , which have just reopened. The aftermath of Drummer's betrayal of Marco in The Expanse season 5 finale sees one of her spouses executed.
This occurred after Marco ordered the killings of Drummer's close comrade Klaes Ashford and her former colleague Fred.
With allies at her side, Drummer now has the opportunity to avenge her fallen confidants. Although his attempt to avenge Elia by defeating the Mountain ends in Oberyn's death, the Dornish prince exhibited great strength and bravery — which was also highlighted by his lover Ellaria and the Sand Snakes' ensuing quest for vengeance.
Drummer's looting of Marco's supplies in The Expanse season 6 , episode 4 parallels the Martells' adoption of guerilla war tactics to get the better of their enemies. Prior to the events of Game of Thrones , the Dornish house resisted the Targaryen conquest by ambushing their adversaries and plundering their supply lines.
