It's also not human readable and I can't find what utility parses it for reading. Friday, June 12, PM. Monday, June 15, AM. Ahh, it seems there is now a 64bit version of that hotfix. I'll try it and report back. I just checked and the services you mentioned are all running. The Dell technician essentially repeated one of my troubleshooting steps, but with a bit more thoroughness. Then he reinstalled the driver. The problem remains. Oddly enough, the third playback device, "HDMI" onboard also does not give this error.

Honestly, I believe it is an operating system and not hardware problem for the same reason. Check the box next to Disable all enhancements For some Windows version, you may see Disable all sound effects here. Thanks very much; this was the first page which came up from my google search, and your first suggestion solved my problem. I wish they were all that easy! I was frustrated like mad.. I tried ur 1st step and bang. It worked..!! Thanks for this post. I created a batch file with the following: echo off net stop "Creative Audio Service" net stop "windows audio" net start "windows audio" net start "Creative Audio Service" I then made a shortcut on my desktop, and set it to Run As Administrator.

Works great! Troubles starting media player since some time. Became worse No restarted audio as discribed on top of this blog. Media player works normally again. I was planning to upgrade to windows ultimate if things continue to be like this but finally things got well.

Thank you to all bloggers B. Oh thank god for your article, I was just about to start panicking when I came across this and fixed the problem.

Probably saved me lots of money from having to bring it in to some tech support place, thanks so much! Thank you so much! Solution 1 worked fine for me, would you believe I hadn't even noticed that my sound had crapped out as I use laptop in work so usually have sound on mute until I tried to accept a call on Skype.

Luckily your blog popped up as the first result on Google and I was fixed in under a minute. Thanks :D. This is the first time I've read something on the net that actually works! Can't thank you enough! Speakers sometimes just stop working when I'm playing music and while restarting fixes them it is rather annoying to have to do, but restarting just the speakers from the services window was just the solution I was looking for!

Thanks :. Fucking thank you for the first solution, I literally checked everything else, even services. Don't know how I skipped Windows Audio for the past year this problem has been randomly occurring, lol. Thanks a lot OP, no more restarting my computer for me.

It is unnacceptable to release an OS that doesn't support the basic DTS, and even after all this time have no fix. Come on Microsoft. In reply to GlennMcSweeney's post on October 13, Yes, still there is no reply from Microsoft on this issue. Pathetic, what else to say Horrible drivers from Microsoft, still no DTS at all!
